Container Forklift Parts - A lift truck is a helpful piece of industrial machinery in distribution and warehouse operations to store and transfer goods. The normal function of a lift truck is to move heavy cargo in the unloading and loading of goods, but dumping is possible with a forklift dump bucket or hopper. This particular attachment easily slides onto the prongs of the lift truck and changes the equipment into a multi-functional device.

You will need to buy a forklift dump bucket, either the traditional unit or the self-dumping model. The self-dumping model is better as it allows for dumping without sloping the forks. Set the dump bucket even on the ground, turn the forklift on, fasten the seat belt and release the parking brake. Move forward slowly while slightly elevating the prongs two to three inches above the ground by applying the "up" lever. Slide the forks into the slots of the hopper until they cannot slide in any more. Fill the dump bucket up with whichever object or materials that is to be thrown. Utilize the "up" lever and lift the hopper until it is above eye level to be able to ensure visibility. Move forward until reaching the trash dumpster and next lift the hopper until it clears the bin by one or two feet and proceed forward until the forklift is touching the exterior of the dumpster.

Self dumping hoppers will automatically unload on contact with the dumpster. Traditional hoppers or dump buckets need the use of the tilt lever to tilt the prongs down until they reach a forty five degree angle. As soon as the inside dump out, return the prongs to the flat position. Lower the prongs back to floor level prior to returning to the facility.
