Power
There are numerous types of forklifts that are operated by propane gas. Forklifts that use propane are very simple to refill. The gas is stored inside a pressurized tank on the truck's back. The propane is pushed into the engine, where it is converted into vapor and then the vapor mixes with air. The forklift throttle is utilized to control the flow of vapor. A spark plug ignites the air and vapor mixture producing pressure which moves the pistons. The pistons run the hydraulic pump and turn the wheels.
Propane powered forklifts are recommended for use in other buildings and warehouses because they are clean burning with low emissions.
Hydraulics
What enables a forklift to raise and move heavy things from one location to another is the hydraulic system. A pump, tubes and cylinders make up the hydraulic system. The pump forces dense fluid in the tubing and into the cylinders. The build up of pressure pushes a piston, which raises the forks. When the forks are lowered by the operator, the hydraulic fluid flows out of the cylinders and back into the pump.
Steering
Where maneuverability is needed, propane forklifts are the most suitable. Unlike a car, a forklift makes use of its rear wheels to turn, which enables the forklift to turn quickly on a tight radius.
